WELCOME TO GRADE 5!  On this page students and parents of my Grade 5 class will find resources and information to help them be successful in class this year.  You can read about your homework expectations. Yes, similar to last year you will have homework, but my hope is that it is a fun and engaging experience for all.  As a parent of two young children I know how busy life can get.  If you're looking for handy tips on helping your child at home please click on the following link from the Ontario Ministry of Education. There are a number of fantastic resources here in English and in Spanish so please feel free to explore them...

Homework Expectations
Picture
Homework for students in 5B will be assigned on Monday and is expected to be completed and handed back in to me onFriday.  As such, please encourage your child to use good time management skills to complete their homework by planning ahead if you have after school commitments.  We will be focusing heavily on Responsibility and Independence this year as your child continues to develop the necessary skills to be a successful life-long learner.

I've added an outline of what students can expect as homework below.  To check what is specifically assigned to them please click on the Calendar (listed under the Grade 5B tab) and check the upcoming Friday.  I have included the Homework for Week 1 on the Calendar so please take a look.  I would also encourage you to subscribe to the Calendar by clicking on the +Google Calender button on the bottom right of the Calendar.  This will allow you and/or your child to easily check what homework is due by simply opening up your devices calendar.

LANGUAGE

Students will be expected to complete their English home reading each night by spending a minimum of 30 minutes reading.  A Reading log is to be kept and will be available for download here (if needed).  For Tips on Reading please click here.  Students will also be given Word Study words on Monday and they will be expected to practice spelling and understanding the meaning of each word.  Word Study tests will be administered on Fridays.

MATH
Students will have follow-up IXL Math work and math problems connected to the lessons and skills that they are working on in class.  Your child will be required to log into IXL and to complete the necessary tasks assigned.  The class Calendar will indicate which questions your child needs to complete for the week.

OTHER
From time to time there will be additional tasks that your child may need to complete for homework.  As always, the best place to check what is due is to refer to the classroom Calendar.
